Last week Kilroy Genia and I where proud to attend the 29th Australia Papua New Guinea Business Forum and Trade Expo, held in Port Moresby.
The Forum theme was “Infrastructure: Time for Action”., an important message that Papua New Guinea has unprecedented opportunity to turn the economic value of today’s resources boom into tomorrow’s future prosperity for all its people.

The Forum was attended by 298 delegates, partners, trade exhibitors and speakers and is well established as the major annual bilateral business meeting between Australia and Papua New Guinea, and builds on the work both Councils have done over more than three decades in growing the bilateral business relationship.
The program for the Forum included an overview of the political and economic climate, especially issues which effect business and investment, including specific sessions by expert presenters on doing business in PNG, including topics such as PNG Economy, Roads, Maritime Transport, Energy and Power Supply and Resource updates.

The forum was attended and addressed by The Hon Peter O’Neil, The Prime Minister of Papua New Guinea, Senator Matt Thistlewaite MP, Parliamentary Secretary for Pacific Island Affairs of Australia and a range of expert speakers from the Public and Private sector.
The Henry Kila Memorial address was delivered by Mr Warren Hogan, Chief Economist of ANZ Banking Group who spoke of the business and economic opportunities for Papua New Guinea in the Asian Century.

Delegates welcomed the positive comments by the Prime Minister of Papua New Guinea and the Australian Parliamentary Secretary for Pacific island Affairs about their Governments’ commitment to the bilateral relationship, noting that Australian investment in PNG exceeds its investment in China.
The President of the Australia Papua New Guinea Business Council invited delegates and Trade expo booth holders to attend the 30th Australia Papua New Guinea Business Forum to be held in Cairns, Queensland from 18th – 20th May 2014.
