Standards are published documents setting out specifications and procedures designed to ensure products, services and systems are safe, reliable and consistently perform the way they were intended to. They establish a common language which defines quality and safety criteria.

Australian and joint Australian/New Zealand standards are practical and don’t set impossible goals. They are based on sound industrial, scientific and consumer experience and are regularly reviewed to ensure they keep pace with new technologies.

The following are some Australian Standards will assist you to comply with the obligations of your Electrical Responsibilities and Licences:

AS/NZS 3000:2007 Electrical installations (the Wiring Rules)
AS 2067-2008 Substations and high voltage installations exceeding 1 kV a.c.
AS/NZS 3012:2010 Electrical Installations – Construction and demolition sites
AS/NZS 3017:2007 Electrical installations – Verification guidelines
AS/NZS 1768:2007 Lightning protection
AS/NZS 4836:2011 Safe working on low-voltage electrical installations and equipment
AS/NZS 3760:2010 In-service safety inspection and testing of electrical equipment

Please ensure you have a copy of all relevant standards readily available to all staff at your site.

High & Low Voltage Inspections and Audits – A simple and quick inspection can save a small easily rectified problem becoming that catastrophic failure everyone dreads.

Plan .. during the next shutdown or power outage, take the time to  inspect your switchgear and transformers .. have a look at the overall condition, check the oil / gas levels, get into a regular oil sampling routine, there are many more checks that each manufacturer advise to ensure maximum life.
